I also will need to learn the new polices regarding payment reimbursement and I will need to understand the new electronic formatting procedures, in addition to the new ANSCI reporting methods. ICD-10-CM will be used by all providers in every health care setting,ICD-10-PCS will be used for only hospital claims for inpatient hospital procedures. Physician practices will need to make system modifications or enhancements. Some system impacts include implementing new technology to assist with code assignment because of the large number of ICD-10 codes, maintaining both ICD-9 and ICD-10 for a period depending on the needs of the individual practice and the ability to resubmit and increased number of denied claims due to errors on both the payer and provider side.The GEMs are the product of a coordinated effort spanning several years and involving the National Center for Health Statistics, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, AHIMA, the Americna Hospital Association and 3M Health Information Systems.
